BIBLICAL FOCUS:

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” — John 8:36 (NLT)

If Jesus already set you free, why do certain areas still feel like they have a grip on you?

Freedom is one of those words we love to shout about, but it’s also one of the hardest things to walk out consistently. Because sometimes God breaks chains, but our mind keeps replaying the old bondage story. Sometimes the door is open, but we keep living like we’re locked in.

In John 8:36: Jesus didn’t say, “If the Son helps you, you’re kind of free.” He said, “you are truly free.” That means freedom in Christ is not partial, not temporary, not fragile. It’s authoritative. It’s real.

But we need to be aware that the enemy will still try to make you return to what you used to be. Old patterns will still call your name. Old temptations will still knock. Old labels will still try to attach themselves to you. And if you’re not careful, you’ll start living like freedom is something you have to continue to achieve, instead of something you have to stand and live in.

We should understand that new freedom begins with what you start believing. Because old bondage, old temptations, old struggles try to make you think:

  • “I’ll always struggle with this.”
  • “This is just who I am.”
  • “I need this to cope.”
  • “If I let this go, I won’t be okay.”
  • “I’ll fail again anyway.”

These are not just habit problems, these are faith battles for our freedom. And Jesus is calling you back to remember truth: “If the Son sets you free…” meaning freedom is not based on your willpower, it’s based on His authority, His sacrifice and His power!

So today, don’t fight like someone trying to earn freedom. Fight like someone who already belongs to the Free One. Don’t negotiate or give room to what God already delivered you from. Don’t treat chains like “normal.” Don’t let bondage be your “comfort.” You are not who you used to be. You are not what you did. You are not the label you were handed. In Christ, you are truly free, and free indeed! Now walk like it.

Steps of Action: Read, Write, and Pray

1) READ:

Set aside time to read:

  • John 8:31–36

2) WRITE:

Answer these honestly:

  • What area still tries to pull me back into old bondage?
  • What lie have I been believing underneath that struggle?

Write one sentence beginning with: “Jesus, I receive Your freedom over…”

3) PRAY:

“Jesus, thank You that You set me free. I renounce every lie that keeps me bound. Break every chain that still tries to cling to my life. Give me strength to walk away from what is old and walk fully in what You declared. I receive Your truth, and I receive Your freedom. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
